"In such a spirit on my part and on yours we face our common difficulties. They concern, thank God, only material things. Values have shrunken to fantastic levels; taxes have risen; our ability to pay has fallen; government of all kinds is faced by serious curtailment of income; the means of exchange are frozen in the currents of trade; the withered leaves of industrial enterprise lie on every side; farmers find no markets for their produce; the savings of many years in thousands of families are gone."

MY COMMENT

Saying this really told me about how the economy was and where the country stood. Which was very, very bad on opinion to what Franklin D Roosevelt.

Students at the Notre Dame School, "The Great Depression." 26 Nov 2008 .

Reading another portion of the article i learned further more that the stock market crash of October 1929 brought the economic prosperity of the 1920s to a symbolic end. For the next ten years, the United States was mired in a deep economic depression. By 1933, unemployment had soared to 25 percent, up from 3.2 percent in 1929. Industrial production declined by 50 percent, international trade plunged 30 percent, and investment fell 98 percent.

I learned that It strengthened the federal presence in American life, spawning such innovations as national old-age pensions, unemployment compensation, aid to dependent children, public housing, federally-subsidized school lunches, insured bank depositions, the minimum wage, and stock market regulations.

This was a sign during the Great Depression, because families were very much into stay at home moms so when the great depression happened men couldnt care for there own, or there household. So many filed for bankruptcy and many were forced to another kind of lifestyle.

This family is poor evidently they are victims of the great depression they lived in the South. You would think it would stop the buisness flow in the NORTH. But many families in the south had there farms and ranches low on stock because the nation was low on MONEY. The great deppresion was a serious situation. THANK GOD FOR F.D.R

Franklin Roosevelt and the great depression
The main idea is that Franklin Delano Roosevelt had ran the white house excellent and stopped the continuous clown turn of America.

The way I will interpret the significance of the subject at matter Franklin Roosevelt and the Great Depression, proving if we can truly give him the glory for ending the tragic, and his support given to the people of the United States of America. You will except to see the things that F.D.R proposed and followed through in his presidency. The Great Depression was a tragic thing that happen in America it left families bankrupt and unemployed, can we point the finger at the president during this time, Hoover and after the Great Depression is over who do we point the finger to on saving, the current president. Well the current president we speak of is Franklin Roosevelt. He was elected in 1939 and contributed numerous ideas such as the NEW DEAL, that help America gain back its reputation so we can definitely say that he won the populations support right? You will expect to see the things that F.D.R proposed and followed through in his presidency and precisely judged weather or not he had much to do with the end of the Great Depression.

The great Depression was a tragic thing that happen in America and it affected the world. It left the families bankrupt and unemployed, can we point the finger at the president during this time, Hoover and after the Great Depression is over who do we point the finger to an saving, the current president. Well the current president we speak of is Franklin Roosevelt. He was elected in 1939 and contributed numerous ideas such as the New Deal that helped America going back its reputation so we can definitely say that he won the population vote in everyone’s mind.

During the 1930’ what epidemic occurred that affected the country and it affected the nation world-wide. The Great Depression, it was an downturn in the economy, and the recover of this impact wasn’t until the president F.D.R was elected. Franklin Delano Roosevelt was Americas 32nd president and he came to the white house, and he had his work cut out for him. Prior to Franklin Delano Roosevelt election the president was Herbert Hoover under his first year came the great depression, is he liable?

The Great Depression had dropped ratings 24.9 were unemployed which impact on the world economic slump in Germany preferably because American loans to rebound the economy had stopped. Australia was the hardest hit countries in Western world falling export demand and commodity prices placed massive downward pressures on wages.

We cant completely give credit to the president. The real causes of the great depression is debate table. If studied thoroughly a deflation is asset and commodity prices, dramatic drops in demand and credit and distribution of trade making widespread poverty. Some people just blame the president for yet barely a year before the Depression began, but he could have slowed it down in his 4 years in office.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt is contributed many ideas to stop the Depression from going downhill. Not all of his ideas were widely in favor of. When Roosevelt was elected in March 1933, the country was suffering the worst depression in its history. Since the country needed an immediate relief its first 100 days he passed an bill to propose programs. Relief measures included the original plans of Hoover, but it took a new name Federal Emergency Relief Administration, so obviously Franklin Delano Roosevelt took in his hands to put America in the right path finically. He did this by organizing different and new organizations and plans for America. CCC which stands for civilian conservation cops was Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s favorite, congress also gave the FTC. CCC was to hire 250,000 unemployed young men to work for rural local projects. Roosevelt advanced the reconstruction Finance the Agricultural Adjustment Administration and more. The Second Deal began from 1935-1936, after the election in 1934 Roosevelt had been a favorite in bot democratic parties. The first deal the new had been widely based around agriculture. Conservative Democrats, led by Al Smith fought back and attacked him having him equated with Marx and Lenin.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt had many other contributions disregarding the great depression. He had new laws and regulations for him immigrates he was successful president.

In conclusion Franklin Delano Roosevelt the Untied States of Americas 32nd president came to the white house with an depression. To be more frank the great depression which was the worst period of economy nation-wide. In his 2 terms of presidency he turned everything around. The unemployed level, the agricultural values and the business community had increased in profit and he made 18.31 million jobs with his ideas and bills passed. So in the end when the curtains fall we know who to tribute respect to, Franklin Delano Roosevelt who completely was a inspiring leader and president.

Thesis

The way I will interpret the significance of the subject at matter Franklin Roosevelt and the Great Depression, proving if we can truly give him the glory for ending the tragic, and his support given to the people of the United States of America. You will exscpect to see the things that F.D.R proposed and followed through in his presidency. Introduction

Who was the president during the Great Depression?, Hoover right. Do we blame him for americas downfall in the economy that left families bankrupt and out of employement Well we can argue that he did not cause the depression we can blame it on the fact that structural weakness were the first causes for the downturn in 1929, and specific events like massive bank failures and the stock market crash on october 29, 1929. Thats not the topic of selection at hand though, but it does shows relevance. When F.D.R was elected in 1932 he had alot of things to do, he came in believing that the depression was because of big buisness had to much money, and he proposed the NEW DEAL, which was intended as a remedy by empowering labor unions and farmers and by raising taxes on coporate profits. The most popular idea he had was the Regulation of the economy. He also proposed ideas such as Securities and Exchange Commission, Federal Reserve, and Social Security those had had won widespread support from citizens.Do we give him the glory for ending the Great Depression?, thats what im here to research and explain throughly on.

Topic Selection

I choose Franklin Roosevelt for my NHD Project because I am interested in the historical happening of the Great Depression. Which occurred in the time period that president Hoover was under presidency. He was accused to have to do with the depression but can we give all the credit to f.d.r for helping to restore America to a rich nation.

Franklin Roosevelt is history, because of his efforts because with out his good-doing efforts this nation America would have fell and became the poorest nation, and would still be going through the Great Depression that would wipe through all the continents by stopping exports and imports. Thats why he was going to be excellent as my NHD selection

This year on NHD. im doing a project on F.D.R the president that saved america from the great depression. After Hoover put them through the tragedy.
Franklin D. Roosevelt helped the American people regain faith in themselves. He brought us hope as he promised prompt, quick action, and asserted in his Address, "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself."He was elected President in November the year of 1932. By March there were 13,000,000 unemployed, and almost every bank was closed. In his first hundred days, he proposed and Congress enacted, a sweeping program to bring recovery to business and agriculture, relief to the unemployed and to those in danger of losing farms and homes, and reform, especially through the establishment of the Tennessee Valley Authority. In 1936 he was re-elected by a top-heavy votes, because of his popularity and the obvious way that he ran the country. Later on in years F.D.R died of cerebral hemorrhage while in warm springs in georgia.
I believe my NHD project will be decent because im doing someone that was influential to history more important our history.

Reflection

I am Gloria Onwugamba and my values in life is aspiring for things and friendship. Ive learned many things through this expierance and in highschool and in service learning is to maintain time and have a schedulaed procedure. I have always been feeling understanding for elders children with not a strong background and more on. But now I have grown to the next level and feel sympathetic about a lot of things. Well if you asked me 2 months ago what was a community I would have told you that ment a town or neighborhood that shared the same trash day. Now that theory has changed and it means a place where people care about eachother and truly value wherether or not health is high and other aspects of natural life. Well I had many stereotypes but none of them were proven wrong with Service Learning. All children learn at a different pace and I learned that children shouldn’t be labeled DUMB as soon as they cant spell R-A-T. They need time and deliberation and then they can learn like everybody else. Ive always known that children need patience so Service Learning didn’t change that at all. I care a lot about helping the community and fundraising for school purposes. I cant say I challengeged my ideas I can basically say that I did what I knew I could do, maybe next year I will decide whether or not to try harder on helping the community.

Service Learning week 4

I had made myself involved in planning out to help for the next three weeks of service learning sales. And yes we decided to sell things in order to make a good amount of money in order to buy calculators and more things that we need to start a tutoring group that is efficient. This weeks theme was Pretzel Sticks for math tips. Which is being sold buy Khalia and Tomriel even though tomriel is not in our group he was still selling them. The next following weeks will be about lollipops and more to follow on. When the school year is over we will have made a good amount of money to but things for tutoring group to be successful. Our next meeting will have too be about budgeting and we will do for budgeting and such things because as a group making money we need a limit of what kind of money we need and a budget for when we spend because we need to invest in remaining money for future sales maybe next year when tutoring becomes our elective, it was still a lot of arguing and disagreeing because many ego's bump heads but by the end we should figure out what to do to keep the violence low and the tension low as well

Service Learning week3

This week we got a lot of things accomplished we revised our survey that was given out to students in advisory, then after that we handed them out to everyone the following morning in 1st and 2Nd period. We also discussed afterwards when we have our first meeting and we will give refreshments and snacks to kids, but first they have to sign up for our tutoring program and will not be told in advanced about the goodies that will be giving out. We discussed about team work since some students took it open themselves to try and control the group but overall it was a successful meeting and we did a good job with the surveys.

Service Learning Friday's meeting

Friday's meeting was productive i had disagreements with what ideas MsMcillan had to say. Yes i was finaaly participating, and that was out of the original. It was not as quite as usaul it was very intresting. We had chose roles as in who records, who researches and who makes the dates. even tho Ms.Mcillan is very dificut we had got through alot of stuff. The only thing that was really frustraing was time, we need to be more time managable.

Service Learning Meeting 2

The meeting wasn't professional or productive, it was very childish and chaotic. Only ideas were giving from certain students rather then others. Many people didn't contribute anything, and MANY people were acting immature. A few people were giving interesting ideas such as Khalia Thompson she was helpful in many ways. The meeting was a short amount of time which made in stressful, and hard to try to develop a tutoring service.

Service learning 1st meeting

The first meeting was excilerating, we discussed where we would be tutring and how the process would take place. We discussed how we would go to INDEPENDENT charter elementary and help the kids there because the 10th graders with more expierance said that the other school they had had bad teachers who did not cuoperate well. The teachers in independent charter are more professional and know what areas the student need help in and the place is very convienent.

Service Learning Project

For service learning i would like to do something with elders and/ or the youth. It would be extremely easy to work with the elders because my mom works with an organizations with elderly people and she is a nurse if that makes any sense. With the youth i would like to work with children that are sickly or have desesis and sicknesses. Maybe have a fun raiser for them and gather up money to find cures or just simply buying them toys to make their lifes better. I came to a conclusion that i should help children and kids with cancer like ALEX, so we are going to start the lemondade stand.

NHD reflection

My topic was African Immigrants in Philadelphia , i decided to do documentry with my partner Shakyra Wilson. Since i am African i know alot about African Immigrants but in this experence i learned that African Immigrants come here to get a better life and secure there future and well being. In the project i learned how to contruct me a documentry that was professional and very presentable to a set of judges. Also in the process you kinda of learn how to have team sprit and to listen to one another and to clash and be okay with one idea(compromising basically). Overall i learned that next year in NHD i am going to work by self because jepordizing my grade to someelse is not gonna work espicially if your not sure that person is responsible enough.

We had alot of success for one when Ms. Thomas was stressed out for what ever reason probably work/home/NHD and other things she decided to take it out on me and my partner when we really honestly aint do nothing to her but hay thats in the past. She decided that she wasnt gonna help us get an interviewee so we had to handle the situtation
properly so we got LEMIn which was another African Immigrant in our school. I interviewed him put it on out documentry and called it a good day you know what i mean.

Beatings

I believe as though there should be restrictions on beatings of children. Parents should not be able to beat children in school or in any other public areas. I think that it should be privatley done so that other people cant be disturbed by it and should not feel akward. Family members should not be able to know(U CANT BRAG)I feel as though parents cant beat their kids after the age 14. After that they can might as well say its abuse children maybe but older teenagers??I think the minimum age should be 7 cause by then they should know right from wrong. I know by the way the future is heading they will probably band beatings which is not right because some religions say that you have to beat your child so they can be obiedent and follow a good path( CHRISTIANS etc) All together i say that we just drop the whole issue on beating cause it is not that serious to talk about if you beat your child beat your child but not in a abusive manner.
